SUMMARY:European Permaculture Convergence
DESCRIPTION:The European Permaculture Convergence comes to  Ireland!\nCome and join us in Ireland this summer to create and expand  “NEW PARTNERSHIPS FOR PERMACULTURE” at the European Permaculture Convergence. \nIt takes place at Knockree Hostel\, Enniskerry\, County Wicklow\, from the 8th to 13th August. \n \nWhat is the European Permaculture Convergence?\nThe EUPC is  intended to support development of permaculture practice across Europe. It is aimed at developing the more experienced community of practice to contribute to building and strengthening permaculture action. \nIn addition\, this years’ theme of ‘New Partnerships in Permaculture’ looks outward to other groups\, movements and individuals who are working towards similar goals. \nWe are inviting speakers\, and listeners\, from related organisations on the Island of Ireland to participate via panel discussions and workshops during the convergence. We hope that this will facilitate cross fertilisation with permaculture and strengthen all of our impacts. \nAre you ready to inspire\, connect and expand Permaculture in Europe?\nTo attend\, offer a talk or workshop\, organise a ‘fringe’ event\, and volunteer at this year’s European Permaculture Convergence\, visit the event website www.eupc2018.ie\, and follow updates on our facebook event page.

SUMMARY:Environmental Forestry walk.
DESCRIPTION:Environmental Forestry?\nA story\, a forest\, an invitation. \nWhat next?\nby Kay Mole \nWhen you need to change your farming.  Whether life has thrown you a curve ball or you have just had enough of struggling against the odds and the weather. There are a few choices. \nFinding myself in this position a few years ago I took a hard look at those choices. With the help and support of my family\, I decided that forestry would be the best option. However\,  after almost 20 years of farming the land organically\, none of us wanted to go the usual route of spray all\, plant conifers and walk away! \nWith the help of my Permaculturist daughter  Hannah Mole (it helps to have some skills in the family) and input from the rest of the family\, I decided to plant hardwoods. \nI did considerable research myself\, and designed a plan for my farm. It wasn’t easy to find a forester who would be willing to plant this for me.  After talking with Prosilva\, I contacted Manus Crowley of Enfor environmental forestry. \nFrom the start Manus was enthusiastic about planting of hardwoods and went out of his way to find the various species that I wished to plant. He was  helpful in completing the paperwork and dealing with the department. \nNow\, almost 3 years on I have a beautiful growing forest of varied species.” \n\nInvitation\nIf you are considering your options for forestry\, but would like a more interesting and environmentally friendly site that still offers you income potential\, you are warmly invited to a talk and tour of  this young forest. \nWe are running this as a free event in conjunction with the Roscommon Lamb Festival.

SUMMARY:Designing Solutions
DESCRIPTION:Development education and Permaculture\nDevelopment education is about exploring the root causes of local and global issues and creating positive action.\nPermaculture is an ethical system of conscious design which is founded on principles derived from nature. It will also serve as an Introduction to Permaculture course. \nMore details:\nThis workshop is a collaboration between Carraig Dúlra research farm\, Earthcare design consultancy and Comhlamh development workers in global solidarity. \nIt includes a 2 day residential in Carraig Dúlra Wicklow and 2 optional evenings in Comhlamh offices\, Parliment street\, Dublin 2. \n7th of March 6:30- 8:30 in Comhlamh offices\, Parliament street D2\n21st March 6:30-8:30 in Comhlamh offices\, Parliament street D2 \nResidential camping 7/8th of April Carraig Dúlra\, Wicklow \nWe are running the fee on a sliding scale to make the course accessible as possible. \nWaged €250; Low waged €200; Unwaged €100 and we have limited places available. \nAdvance booking essential. \nFor more information email gareth@comhlamh.org

SUMMARY:Practical Permaculture Design - An Introduction
DESCRIPTION:This 1 day workshop will be an introduction to land based applications of Permaculture design. It will offer a pragmatic introduction to the what and the how of Permaculture; an overview of the main concepts and principles and patterns involved and how to use them. We will be considering how to design and set up a productive site in cooperation with natural elements.\n\nWho is this Permaculture course of interest to?\n\nanyone wanting to understand the basics of Permaculture.\nthose looking to design and ecologically manage a piece of land at any scale;  garden\, farm\, community or commercial.\nand those who work (or play!) in related areas that could integrate this approach such as landscaping\, gardening\, farming\, waste management etc.\n\n \nWe will focus on getting to grips with the foundational principles\, where they come from\, and how they are applied to a project.\nWe will consider some key design approaches that together will enable you to see your project from this perspective.\nYou will learn how to best place elements in your project for maximum efficiency\,  to make the most of natural resources and to work with\, rather than against nature.\n\nIt will be interactive\, lighthearted\, informative and applicable.\n\nTickets € 70\nBooking via Irish Seed Savers Association website.
