DESCRIPTION:Development education and Permaculture\nDevelopment education is about exploring the root causes of local and global issues and creating positive action.\nPermaculture is an ethical system of conscious design which is founded on principles derived from nature. It is used to create truly sustainable human settlements. \nIn this workshop we aim to bring the two approaches together to design real solutions to many of the issues we face today. \nWhat will this workshop cover?\n• Solutions to many of the issues we face as a global community.\n• Empowerment\, Inspiration\, Connection and nourishment!\n• An exploration of the meanings of ‘development’\, ‘sustainable’\, ‘regenerative’\,’justice’.\n• Untangling the complex web of linked problems to find patterns and effective points of intervention.\n• Turning problems into opportunities.\n• Application of this thinking practically in our own lives\, our communities and the wider world.\n• An understanding of the basics of Permaculture ethics and principles. \nIt will be of interest to anyone volunteering in local or international contexts and those involved or interested in social and environmental justice issues. It will also serve as an Introduction to Permaculture course. \nMore details:\nThis workshop is a collaboration between Carraig Dúlra research farm\, Earthcare design consultancy and Comhlamh development workers in global solidarity. \nIt includes a 2 day residential in Carraig Dúlra Wicklow and 2 optional evenings in Comhlamh offices\, Parliment street\, Dublin 2. \n7th of March 6:30- 8:30 in Comhlamh offices\, Parliament street D2\n21st March 6:30-8:30 in Comhlamh offices\, Parliament street D2 \nResidential camping 7/8th of April Carraig Dúlra\, Wicklow \nWe are running the fee on a sliding scale to make the course accessible as possible. \nWaged €250; Low waged €200; Unwaged €100 and we have limited places available. \nAdvance booking essential. \nFor more information email gareth@comhlamh.org

SUMMARY:Practical Permaculture Design - An Introduction
DESCRIPTION:This 1 day workshop will be an introduction to land based applications of Permaculture design. It will offer a pragmatic introduction to the what and the how of Permaculture; an overview of the main concepts and principles and patterns involved and how to use them. We will be considering how to design and set up a productive site in cooperation with natural elements.\n\nWho is this Permaculture course of interest to?\n\nanyone wanting to understand the basics of Permaculture.\nthose looking to design and ecologically manage a piece of land at any scale;  garden\, farm\, community or commercial.\nand those who work (or play!) in related areas that could integrate this approach such as landscaping\, gardening\, farming\, waste management etc.\n\n \nWe will focus on getting to grips with the foundational principles\, where they come from\, and how they are applied to a project.\nWe will consider some key design approaches that together will enable you to see your project from this perspective.\nYou will learn how to best place elements in your project for maximum efficiency\,  to make the most of natural resources and to work with\, rather than against nature.\n\nIt will be interactive\, lighthearted\, informative and applicable.\n\nTickets € 70\nBooking via Irish Seed Savers Association website.
